Life and Annuity Policies (6 Hours)
Learn the general uses and legal elements of life insurance policies and annuities. This class helps you understand the components of term insurance, universal life, whole life, and the classifications, types, and provisions of annuities. You will also examine how the application of these products, used with additional financial planning tools, can help clients and prospects meet their personal financial goals.
Business and Life Concepts (2 Hours)
Learn the issues involving employer-owned life insurance and the proper application of life insurance to key person business exposure. The information provided in this course helps you understand these and other issues facing business owners, including executive bonus programs used as an employer-provided benefit and development of a business succession plan. You will also learn the basics of buy-sell agreements and funding methods and structure of life insurance ownership to provide counsel as part of the business owner’s planning team.
Health Insurance and Employee Benefits Concepts (8 Hours)
What are the benefits afforded by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and how do ACA-compliant and non-compliant medical health plans differ? Learn about these differences, as well as the value of consumer-driven, tax-advantaged accounts, including FSA, HSA, and HRA. Understand when to use Medicare, Medicare Supplements, and Medicaid to meet clients’ needs.
You will also understand the meaning of long-term care and how it differs from acute and rehabilitation care. The information in this course helps you understand the special challenges brought on by long-term care exposures, as well as innovative products that address those exposures, including state Long-Term Care Insurance Partnership Programs.
Finally, you will examine possible sources of income replacement in the event of disability. Analyze the benefits of individual disability income contracts within various occupations and industries as well as the use and benefits of a Business Overhead Expense Disability Policy.

Jerry owns and manages an agency in Grand Coulee, Washington. He has long been an advocate of professional continuing education and is a National Faculty member and Educational Consultant for The National Alliance. Active in the industry, Jerry served on the technical committee of the Independent Agents of Washington and chaired the Far West Agents conference, a technical forum with Insurance Services Office. He currently serves as faculty for IIAA's Virtual University. Jerry was honored by the PIA of Washington/Alaska as "Agent of the Year" in 1994 and served as President of the Association in 1997-1998. Jerry is an active volunteer in his community and in 1995 was named "Business Person of the Year" by the Grand Coulee Dam Chamber of Commerce.

Bobby Shomo is President of Shomo-Madsen Insurance which is headquartered in central Iowa. Shomo-Madsen Insurance is a Best Practices Agency recipient for six years running and represents approximately 16 Insurance Companies with an agency mix of roughly 45% Personal Lines, 25% Commercial Lines, 20% Municipalities and 10% Life and Health. The agency has five locations and 25 employees with their main office in Marshalltown, Iowa. They continue to pursue growth through both acquisition and organic growth and are scheduled to close their next agency purchase on October 30th, 2020. Bobby is involved in the agency on a full-time basis as a managing partner, a producer specializing in schools and municipalities and the Human Resources manager. Prior to purchasing his first agency, Bobby spent six years on the company side primarily in casualty claims with rotations in underwriting and loss control. His MBA was earned with concentrations in Finance and Accounting and he received his CIC designation in 2012. Bobby has a passion for education as both a teacher and a student. His background brings a perspective from both the company and agency sides. In addition, his agency experience has developed from a relatively small, single owner shop with three employees and a handful of contracts to his current structure with a 50/50 partner, multiple locations and staff of twenty-five. Additionally, Shomo-Madsen Insurance has had to deal with three catastrophic weather-related events in 25 months. An EF-3 tornado in July of 2018 that hit main street; a major hail storm in May of 2019 and a Derecho (106 mph straight-line winds) in August of 2020. Bobby is currently working toward his CRM designation.

Darrin started the Rankin Insurance Group as a scratch Agent in 2001, when he relocated from Syracuse, New York to Charlotte North Carolina. The Rankin Insurance Group is an Independent Insurance Agency offering Auto, Home, Business and Life Insurance products. Darrin is licensed in NC, SC, GA, VA, PA, MD, OH and IL. Prior to starting the Rankin Insurance Group, he worked for the Erie Insurance Group for 5 years as a District Sales Manager where he recruited, trained, and managed Agents through central NY. While working for Erie Insurance, he earned his MBA from Syracuse University and completed his CIC designation in 2000. Darrin also serves as an Insurance Pre-Licensing instructor at Central Piedmont Community College. Darrin is a board member for IIANC, a Board Member for the North Carolina Reinsurance Facility, and a Subject Matter Expert for PearsonVue.
